Breast Implant Related Illnesses

Our attorneys are evaluating and accepting qualified BIA-ALCL cases. We are investigating potential cases associated with textured implants, including but not limited to Allergan’s July 24, 2019 recalled implants.  We are investigating potential claims against Mentor or Sientra and their alleged failure to adequately warn against or test the safety and effectiveness of their products.

The FDA has requested a recall on several popular types of breast implants due to an increased risk of a rare illness. Over the past several years, many women have come forth with complaints about a rare cancer they believe are related to their breast implants. This type of cancer, known as breast-implant associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, can have devastating effects on women. After years of complaints, the FDA and at least one manufacturer of the breast implants consider these implants unsafe and therefore have pulled a select few off the market.

The main symptoms of breast implant associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, or BIA-ALCL, include swelling and pain in the area of the implant. These symptoms can occur shortly after the implant was placed, or years afterward. Over 550 cases globally of BIA-ALCL have been reported to the FDA and there have been 33 reported deaths associated with the illness.
In addition to BIA-ALCL, women are experiencing a broad range of symptoms after receiving their breast implants. Breast Implant Illness (BII) is a term used by women who have breast implants, these symptoms include:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Pain
  • Inflammation
  • Night sweats
  • Hives
  • Poor Wound Healing
  • Immune System Dysfunction
  • Headaches
  • Enlarged Lymph Nodes
  • Digestive Issues
  • Hashimoto’s Disease
  • Cognitive Dysfunction
  • And more…

It is not uncommon for these women to learn their breast implant had ruptured. A ruptured implant can lead to devastating health consequences. Despite this fact, women struggle to have the implant removed from their bodies. Once removed, symptoms of BII nearly disappear.
