Round-Up® or  Glyphosate Related Illnesses

For decades the weed killer Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Round-Up®, has been used in farming and landscaping. Since 1974 over 3 billion pounds of glyphosate has been used in the United States in both commercial and residential capacities, according to the National Institutes of Health.

In 2015 the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer released a report indicating that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic” based on multiple scientific studies. In 2017, the chemical was added to the list maintained by the State of California as a substance known to cause cancer. Additionally, in 2019 researchers at the University of Washington published a report that found that glyphosate make increase the risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma by as much as 41 percent. These statistics paint a chilling picture for those who have used Round-Up regularly and have developed cancer.

As terrible as these statistics are, there is also evidence that Monsanto had known that Round-up ® and the chemical glyphosate is a carcinogen for over 30 years. Exposure to glyphosate has been linked to cancer in agricultural workers, landscapers, and even gardening hobbyists.

Some of these cancers include:

  • Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
  • Hairy Cell Lymphoma
  • Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Mantle Cell Lymphoma
  • B or T-Cell Lymphoma

A recent case in California involved a school groundskeeper, Dewayne Johnson, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer after years of exposure to RoundUp. Jurors awarded the man $289 million dollars. While nothing can take away the pain and suffering of the Johnson family, this case cleared the way for hundreds of cases across the country. In this landmark case the judge ruled that experts could testify about Roundup’s link to cancer, opening the door for thousands of people that have been harmed by the weed killer.
